About Panchkarma

Panchakarma as the name suggests are “Five treatment procedures”. These 5 procedures are the Ayurvedic methods of purifying the body, removing toxins and bringing back balance and harmony amongst the body constituents. Only a well-trained expert and therapist can perform these procedures as it requires proper pretreatment, main course and post treatment measures to be followed properly.

Vaman

Vaman can be termed as medically induced emesis. After proper external and internal oleation of the body and fomentation specially prepared decoctions are given to the patient to drink and emesis is induced. Vaman is highly beneficial to treat diseases of the Respiratory system like Asthma, Bronchitis, sinusitis, Allergic rhinitis and other diseases like Hyperacidity and various skin diseases like Psoriasis, Eczemas and Pemphigus

Virechan

Virechan involves purgation by Ayurvedic method. The preparatory procedures are same as Vaman. In healthy individuals the procedure is done in Sharad ritu (autumn season) to prevent the diseases arising due to Pitta Dosha. Virechan is indicated in various diseases of the respiratory tract, abdomen and a number of skin diseases.

Nasya

Nasya means instillation of medicines through the nasal route. The medicines may be in the form of powders or medicated oils/Ghee. Nasya therapy is primarily used in treating diseases like sinusitis, rhinitis, hair fall, epilepsy, facial paralysis and paralysis and various other psychological and neurological disorders.

Basti

In Basti, medicines in the form of decoction (Niruha Basti) or oils/ghee (Anuvasan) are administered through the anal route. These are called as medicated enemas. Basti is helpful in treating diseases like Arthritis, Backache, Sciatica, osteoporosis and diseases of bowels like Irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis.

Raktamokshan

Raktamokshan refers to Bloodletting by various methods like Shiraveda, Jaloka- avacharan (Leech application) etc.The process is basically meant for purification of the blood and to treat blood diseases, High blood pressure and other diseases.

In Ayurveda there are more than150 types of treatments. We have explained a few methods below.

NadiPariksha (Pulse Diagnosis)

NadiPariksha means diagnosis by examining Pulse. NadiPariksha is an ancient Ayurvedic technique of Pulse Diagnosis, which can accurately help in diagnosis of physical, mental and emotional imbalances of a patient. This helps understand the root cause of disease and not just the symptoms. NadiParikshan is done using the signals obtained from the three precise locations on the wrist at the radial artery using index, middle and ring fingers corresponding to Vata, Pitta and Kapha respectively. Subtle vibrations in the pulse are observed to find out various functions in the body. Nadi helps in diagnosis of diseases and also understand the effect of treatment given. NadiPariksha is done early morning when the person is fasting to get accurate findings. NadiPariksha also helps to plan personalized wellness programs including massages and detoxification therapies dietary choices, exercise programs and lifestyle changes.

ViddhaChikitsa (Agni Karma)

ViddhaChikitsa or Agnikarma (Thermal Cautery) is an ancient Medical Technique described and practiced in Ayurveda. This is useful for relief from various muscular and joint pains. These days a modified version of Agnikarma named as ViddhaChikitsa is in practice where very fine needles are used and heat is passed to the deeper tissues through an electric cautery.

It is effective in conditions of acute pain, as well as in chronic pain. The effects of ViddhaChikitsa are excellent in case of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Calcaneal Spur, Backache, Neck pain and many times this is even used to reduce pains in cancerous conditions. ViddhaChikitsa can also be done in cases of muscle dystrophies and neurological disorders to stimulate the nerves to improve conduction. The advantages of Viddhachikitsa are that no wound is left behind; it is not painful and does not leave any scar but still gives the best results.

Swarnaprashan (For Children from New born to 12 years of age)

SuvarnaprashanSanskar is an ancient Indian tradition and is one of the 16 Sanskaars practiced in ancient India. Its utility is in comprehensive development of immunity and for proper physical and mental growth of a child. A mix of medicated ghee and Honey in unequal proportions along with Suvarna (Gold) Bhasma is used in Swarnaprashan Liquid.

Although this is specially recommended to be given on PushyaNakshatra day, its daily consumption in 4-6 drops has shown excellent results in reducing recurrent chest infections, frequent gastric upsets and increasing appetite. Also other beneficial effects like increasing intellect, concentration, memory and thus improving the academic performance at school. It helps prevent problemsthat arise during teething as well. It protects the child from diseases during seasonal changes and keeps away the allergies that child can encounter during his development.

Kshar Sutra Therapy (for Fistula in Ano and Piles)

Kshar Sutra Therapy is a unique and minimally invasive para-surgical procedure in Ayurveda used for the treatment of ano-rectal diseases like piles and fistula. Kshar Sutra, a medicated thread is prepared by coating a special thread with specific powders of herbs like Snuhi, Apamarga and Haridra.

During the Kshar Sutra procedure this thread is passed in the opening of the fistula or tied to the Pile mass and is to be retained there for about a week. This thread has to be changed at weekly intervals till the whole fistula/Piles is healed. The fistula slowly cuts and gets healed. Thread controls infection and facilitates drainage of pus in the tract helping in healing. The best benefit of Kshar Sutra is that recurrence of fistula/piles is very rare, it is cost effective and no major surgery is done. Therefore Kshar Sutra therapy has become highly popular for the treatment of fistula and piles.

PATRA PINDA SWEDA

Herbal poultices (bundles) are prepared with various herbs and medicated powders. These poultices are warmed in medicated oils and used to massage the entire body, neck, shoulders, hand and back, shifting the person from side to side. This therapy promotes better blood circulation within the affected area thereby promoting increased perspiration, which helps the skin to eliminate dead skin. It also helps to tone the skin and can be superbly relaxing. PATRA PINDA SWEDA is used inVata dominant conditions such as SandhighatVata, Neuropathies and myalgias.

PINDA SWEDA

The whole body is massaged with Navara-rice bundles which are cooked in milk and herbal decoctions. This massages firms and rejuvenates the skin. It is an excellent treatment for neuromusular disorders, neuropathies,lowermotor neuron disease and pseudo muscular dystrophies. It also provides relief in various ailments like rheumatism, emaciation of limbs and certain skin and muscular.

THAKRA DHARA

This is a powerful relaxation therapy for the head and mind. In this therapy, buttermilk which has tremendous cooling properties isused as the main ingredient for the treatment. During Thakradhara,a stream of medicine-rich buttermilk is gently poured on a person's forehead. The medicated buttermilk is a luxurious treatment, which calms the individual down. The treatment induces coolness to the brain, relaxes the mind,reduces mental stress and increases memory power.

SHIROBASTI

Lukewarm, medicated oil is applied to the entire head. A leather cap is then placed on the head and the required oil is poured maintaining a particular temperature, for required duration. This is a very effective treatment for migraine, deafness, diseases effecting the cranial nerves, facial palsy, insanity, diseases of head and eye seizures of different types, sleep disorders and stress related issues In fact this is one treatment that has some effect on all diseases

SARVANG ABHYANGAM

In this therapy, special herbal/medicated oil is applied on the full body from head to toe in various positions. These massage techniques help the body to sooth muscles, increase vigour and rejuvenate all the senses. Abhyangam has been found very effective for improving eyesight longevity, blood circulation and mental alertness this also helps to induce peaceful sleep. It is the best massage to delay ageing and as a preventive massage for overall good health.

SHIRODHARA

This is a signature Ayurevdic massage for mind, body and soul. In this technique a nonstop continuous stream of oil is made to drop gently on the forehead from a particular height through a specially made apparatus. Shirodhara when taken relaxes, rejuvenates the body, improves immune system, creates a complete soothing sensation, and also deeply relaxes the nervous system. Regular treatment of Shirodhara increases blood circulation in the brain, improving memory and nourishes the hair and scalp. This is the best massage therapy to release stress and strain

UDWARTHANAM

The body is scrubbed using combination of exfoliating herbal powders with special strokes enabling deep cleansing of the Skin and its pores by breaking down cellulite under the skin. THAILADHARA

This is one of our special massage therapies to restore vigor and vitality of the whole body. This is mild massage where warm oil is squeezed on the body as the body is continuously massaged slowly with light pressure.
